A Conversation with my Brain
A Conversation with my Brain
"Take it flip side 'round," says Brain quite clearly.
She has cut into my monologue, although I haven't asked her opinion. Nonetheless, I have to admit she's right. There is a flip side, a back of the mirror to everything. You just have to turn it around to focus on something else.
"So, if I don't like something, should I look at it from upside down? Or rather, downside up?" I wonder.
"That might help," Brain replied. "But I'd say it's more like facing your boat upright again. It's like you have taken a dip in the river of life and remained capsized. Your boat is covering your head so you are forced to look down into the murkiness of the river bottom and floating seems quite far away.
Do you know how many people face their lives from inside their boat of thoughts, unable to lift it off their head when all they would need is a slight push? The river flows around them and they are missing the currents."
"Wow! How many people are like that?" I ask.
"Why are you worried about other people when we're really talking about you? You worry about too many things," Brain says in an exasperated tone. "And anyway, how should I know?" Brain shrugs. Not visibly, of course, but mentally.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" I say.
"Stop saying you're sorry!" Brain scolds me. "Shake it off, like Taylor Swift. Look, dangle your hair like this and toss your head back and forth. Doesn't that feel better?"
I have to admit it does.
Brain starts giggling. "Now, that's what I'm talking about. Can you see your boat from the back?"
I blink. "Kind of...but everything around it is fuzzy. It's like I'm navigating through a fog."
"Yes, everyone gets into a fog sometimes. Let's try singing some OHMs and dancing around until the fog clears."
"Won't I rock the boat?" I ask anxiously.
"Not if your note is solid and your dance is without shame. Now, let's get to it. There's no time like the present."
